The Trustees of our beneficial fund have gotten us a better Dental Plan plus Long & Short Term Disability for off the job sickness or injury.
The trustees also switched providers of the Life Insurance Plan from Amalgamated to Harford Insurance.
The changes will go into effect on November 1, 2008. You will receive information regarding these changes in the mail if you have not already received it.
The Trustees have initiated Medical Reimbursements of up to $400 for our City Retirees. Reimbursements will commence on January 1, 2009.
Our current Administration is striving to improve our benefits at every opportunity.

The I.L.A has ruled that S.I. Ferry
workers who were grandfathered in as full book members in 2002
wasn’t legal and want us to pay the same 650.00 that all other classes of
ferry workers pay in order to vote in the rerun election.
We will have to pay 250.00 up front and the rest monthly to be members in good standing.
We were associate members for over 50 years and weren’t allowed to become full book members.
This is very unfair to give us books and then have them taken away but I’m sure we will fight this legally.
In the meantime to keep our ferry people in office and have a say in our union do we have a choice but to pay!!!!!!!!!

We have had a busy year so far. We switched the Dental Coverage to the Guardian Plan and are in the process of converting our annuity to individual ING Accounts.
Many of our members have not updated their forms for Life Insurance and Vision. Check to make sure you have provided the union with the information needed in order to provide you and your family this coverage.
If you have dependents we need copies of your marriage certificate and/or birth certificates for dependent children.
See Larry Conroy, Shop Steward or stop by the union hall and see me.
We are still waiting to get back to the bargaining table, our contract expired April 30, 2008. No word yet on when we will meet again.
Respectfully Submitted,
Richie Russo
